During the 1970’s through 1990’s, I handled a number of specialty writing and marketing projects for local school districts. Michigan had mandated Public Act 25, which required every school district to publish an annual report.  Seven critical areas had to be address; however, beyond that the schools were free to be creative. The goal was to provide the community with verifiable information on the schools’ missions, goals, expenses, and create a more congenial and cooperative connection between the schools and their communities.

Money was tight, PC’s and desktop publishing was still in its infancy.  School administrators were perplexed on what to include in their reports beyond obvious statistics, and how to prepare and distribute the results. That’s where I came in. Four of Sanilac County’s seven districts hired me to help them plan, draft, publish and distribute their reports the first years.  Some preferred to handle things in house after that, and a couple decided to have me continue for a few more rounds.
